"When I am on my bike I feel Dale's spirit is in the wind riding along with me. This special journey is in memory of Dale and I know it is going to be tough but I am so motivated to achieve the 1,000 mile trek and also want to talk to as many people as possible about the importance of wearing your seat belts, especially the kids. This campaign is part of the 365Alive vision whereby Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service is aiming to save 365 lives over the next ten years. I would like to personally thank the Assistant Chief Officer Dave Etheridge for his support, inspiration and guidance also a massive thanks to my cycle4seatbelts campaign team."

Owen Pates

Owen is keen to get started on the challenge that he would go tomorrow if that was at all possible.

"When Bob approached me about it, I thought it was a worthwhile cause. I like cycling and it is a route I always wanted to do. I am really looking forward to it. This is going to be one brilliant cycling holiday. We are hoping to raise about £20,000 for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund, so please donate and thank you in advance for your support."

"I was inspired by the launch of 365Alive (www.365alive.co.uk). It really struck a chord with me and I wanted to get involved. I am a keen cyclist and cycle to work every day. I am really looking forward to communicating with the kids we plan to talk to en route. The horrific things we see happen on the roads as firefighters – we need to get the message across before the kids start driving. Our main objective is to raise awareness about seatbelts and make people drive more safely."
